The deadline for candidacy for a constitutional judge expires at midnight. There is a lot of interest, there are 10 vacancies, and at the moment 45 applications have been received.

The process of electing constitutional judges in Croatia, for which 45 candidates are currently registered, is being discussed. Constitutional judges can be politicians, professors, lawyers or other jurists. Qualifications include the necessary knowledge, quality and authority. The selection process often requires a compromise between expertise and political influence.

The choice is influenced by various factors, including the professional qualifications of the candidates, but also political negotiations and the balance of power. The Constitutional Court is a key institution, and the function of a constitutional judge brings social prestige and benefits, but with little personal responsibility for decisions.

The goal is to choose the best candidates who will be able to independently and expertly make important decisions for the legal system and society as a whole. The registered candidates are diverse, which further emphasizes the importance of careful selection.

constitutional expert Sandra Markovic says: "Where someone comes to the Constitutional Court from is not decisive in my opinion. Knowledge, quality and what a person carries with him are crucial. He can be a politician, professor, lawyer, but he must be prominent, he must carry authority with him, and that makes the difference between the one who should sit in the constitutional court and the other."
